Cancellation
Lessons with Ashleigh is a tuition-based studio, so makeup lessons are encouraged when students are unable to attend their regularly scheduled lesson. In order for the student to be offered a make-up timeslot, students must cancel their lesson by 11 am the day of the scheduled lesson. If cancellation is made after 11am or not at all, the student will not be eligible for a reschedule. If the student is absent with no contact (no call-no show) for 2 consecutive weeks or 3 times within a two month period, their membership will be subject to termination.
To cancel a lesson, students are encouraged to utilize the lesson cancellation feature on My Music Staff. In the memo line of the cancellation, please state if you’d like to reschedule or be offered makeup options. In the event of an emergency or a time-sensitive cancellation, please send me a text at 505-427-2206 with the information.
Make-up Lessons
There are several options for make-ups. The first (and preferred) option is a traditional reschedule. A reschedule can be accomplished one of two ways- the first is by simply requesting a list of open times from me and selecting one. The second is by joining our Lesson Swap group. Parents/Adult students will have the option to be added to a group text thread used solely for temporarily switching time slots with another student. This is entirely voluntary and will be kept anonymous. Please click HERE for more details.
Another option for a make-up lesson is a virtual lesson. In the event that the student is without a ride, an ill student is feeling up to a lesson but is still contagious, or another circumstance occurs that prevents the student from appearing in person for lessons, the studio is set up with a virtual lesson equipment to conduct lessons via Zoom. The Zoom room will be linked on the Lessons with Ashleigh Website as well as the My Music Staff Student portal.
If neither of the above options are viable for your situation, I am happy to offer a customized video lesson with accompanying theory work. This lesson will be delivered as a Google Drive link in the Student Portal by the end of the business day following the missed lesson.
Attendance
Regular attendance is expected. Students with an attendance rate of 60% or lower over the course of a three month span may be subject to termination. Please reach out to Ashleigh with any long-term absences or medical emergencies to discuss options and avoid losing your lesson spot.
Payment
The cost of a weekly 30 minute lesson is $120/month, billed at the beginning of the month. All payments must be processed online or made in person via cash or check by the 7th of the month. All unpaid invoices will be charged a $10 late fee.
If monthly payment is an issue, please ask for more information on the Pay Ahead Weekly Plan.
Why Tuition?
I believe very strongly in consistency. By keeping payment the same every month, families are able to budget for the same expense on a monthly basis, just like a gym membership or a Spotify subscription. Missed lessons are offset by 5 lesson months, optional evening theory classes, and extra lessons prior to recitals. Tuition-based payment schedules also encourage consistent attendance, which tends to encourage more consistent results from the student.
Practice
I recommend that students practice for 30 minutes at least 4 times per week in addition to their lesson. Beginner students (within the first 2 months of lessons) should practice for less time, but more frequently. If I notice that a student is not practicing and not making progress, there will be a discussion with both the student and parents making sure that private lessons are the best use of their time and finances.
Recitals
Typically there will be two formal recitals per year, but due to the studio’s opening date, there will only be one in 2025, which will be held in October. Recital announcements with the location, time, and additional details will be sent out at the end of the summer. Students will be expected to prepare a piece of their choosing to perform for their peers at each recital. There may also be some optional casual performance opportunities, which students will be notified of as they are scheduled. Recitals are not mandatory but are highly encouraged! Students will be given the option of adding an additional lesson the weekend prior to the recital at no extra charge.
Studio Closures
A list of studio closure dates can be found HERE. In the event of severe weather, lessons will be migrated to Zoom. For any students without internet access, other makeup options will be extended on a case-by-case basis.
Student Portal
Students are required to utilize the My Music Staff Student Portal. From the portal, students are able to log practice time, see upcoming lessons, reschedule absences, view invoices, pay tuition, and much more. To login, click HERE.
